A very strange thing happened the other evening. We were just sitting down to dinner with candles lit and ruby red wine when we both heard a tinkling rill of bells. Neither of us spoke until we heard a second rill. It was just as though someone had picked up the bowl of silver bells I have standing in the hall and shaken it.... twice.
"Did you hear bells?" I asked.
"I did, I was just about to ask you if you heard them too."
One cat was sitting upon the window-sill behind my chair looking into the deep dark garden outside, the other was actually out there in the darkness. So who or what rang the bells?
Do Angels Laugh (Nonet)
What is the sound of angel laughter?
Does it shiver like windblown leaves?
Does it ring out like church bells?
Tinkle like fine crystal?
Echo in the wind?
Float like a mist?
Glissando
Like heart's
Joy?

You always get my attention right from the start! You have such a fabulous style of writing!!
I like how you and your husband waiting for the second ring and how you mentioned where your cats were... So who did ring the bells. Oh, yes... an angel did! Definitely!
Blessings!!!

Hi Jane,
I always love a story that starts out like this! I would love to think that it was the angels laughing. In my case...angels truly do laugh. You know my son has Angelman Syndrome (the syndrome being named for the English doctor would discovered the syndrome)and one of the hallmarks of the syndrome is excessive laughter. Sweetest thing I've ever heard!
sending hugs...
Ooohh thats interesting! You know that happened to us in our old house in Sweden. The door bell rang in the middle of the night, but the door bell hadnt been attached for years! It just hung there with wire sticking out of it. Everyone in the house heard it though. Freaked us right out!!!
Ooh. Fortunate that you both heard it.
Perhaps the trees were laughing.
Good question... who did ring the bells? What a perfect post... the pink bowls...the lovely poem... and the mystery! I say the angels were in your midst, inspiring you.
So happy to find you again through Marsha!
The image and prose both a delight!
