'When they ask to see your gods
your book of prayers
show them lines
drawn delicately with veins
on the underside of a bird's wing
tell them you believe
in giant sycamores mottled
and stark against a winter sky
and in nights so frozen
stars crack open spilling
streams of molten ice to earth
and tell them how you drink
a holy wine of honeysuckle
on a warm spring day
and or the softness
of your mother who never taught you
death was life's reward
but who believed in the earth
and the sun
and a million, million light years
of being'

How wonderful to see this beautiful poem spreading to so many places. I thought I should let you know that the link to your web page on your blogger profile is incorrect.
You have a lovely blog here :-)
Breathtaking! This poem makes you want to slow down
and pay closer attention to life.
It makes you want to stop and closely examine
its many sacred offerings,
its bountiful blessings surrounding us
in our everyday existence.
Often times, when I come here, I find the peace and the stillness that I crave. Jane I am so grateful to call you my dear friend. Your place is a respite for me. This poem spoke to my heart.
Oh yes, to have you just around the corner...what a joy that would be!
sending hugs from here...
Thank you so much for writing everyone, I treasure each and every comment! :)))

Oh, Jane, how I love this poem. So meaningful and how true. Smell the roses. Sending love, my friend....
Hi Jane,
Thank you so much! I had a lovely time browsing your blog - I love old children's books and I must get myself a copy of the Great Sea Horse! I saw that "The Little White Horse" is one of your favorite books! I love that book so much - getting lost in that world has been my solace in many a hard time. Thanks again for your kind words and encouragement :-)
