Sometimes, When the Light

Sometimes, when the light strikes at odd angles
and pulls you back into childhood

and you are passing a crumbling mansion
completely hidden behind old willows

or an empty convent guarded by hemlocks
and giant firs standing hip to hip,

you know again that behind that wall,
under the uncut hair of the willows

something secret is going on,
so marvelous and dangerous

that if you crawled through and saw,
you would die, or be happy forever.

I have never read this poem, and am so glad you introduced it. when I was a child I loved the Trixie Belden mysteries and was taken back there with this delightful poem ... not to mention the secret places we have as adults, little bowers of the mind and heart... So good to see a post from you... I hope you're feeling better. Best Thoughts, always.

Best ever, Jane. And what a creepily mysteriously romantic old house!

Yes its that feeling, that un-graspable magic of memory and childhood, of wishing and reality and not quite being able to tell which is which. Some wonderful books can evoke this in me, those by Regina Mcbride are amazing, have you ever read any of them?...I would recommend them to you...

Thank you so much for your lovely comments...I have had an enforced rest for a year and pretty much shut down all activity but now I am around once more and so pleased to hear from old blogging buddies (big smile) Hope you have had a super Easter Holiday,
Hugs Lynn xxxx
