'Some people dance in the rain and others get wet.'
-Roger Miller, Singer songwriter -

The summer reigns on, rains on.  Somewhere there will be children staring from steamed-up windows, gazing out through this fence of steel knitting-needle rain falling to earth.  Mind you...are there any children out there longing to play outside any more?  It seems I may be thinking back too far into my own past remembering.  Most probably they are all mesmerized by different screens, glass certainly, but 'windows on the world' of a different kind.

Hello Jane:
It must take a will of iron by now to concentrate on dancing in the rain rather than just getting wet after all the weeks of downpours that you have been experiencing. As for us, we are melting as the heat is unrelenting and not even a hint of a breeze. We are concentrating on staying cool rather than dancing!

We fear that children do no longer play outside or indeed interact at all except with a computer screen. A window and a barrier all at the same time!

These newfangled screens certainly are seductive. A relief to have at times such as these when it is too hot to play outside, but one must be ever vigilant. With one's own self, as well! xoxo

Wish we could have some of that rain. It was 105F/41C here today with 22% humidity. I waited until after 10 p.m. to make bread last night but it was still too hot in the kitchen and after it rose, the top kind of "floofed" and deflated. Didn't hurt how it tasted, though, or smelled (divine!) -- just made one end of the bread slices kinda funny looking. It's 10 p.m. here now and 93F/34C outside. I'm under a ceiling fan eating delicious honeydew melon and cantaloupe cubes sprinkled with red grapes and some blueberries that are just a tad tart but delicious all the same. (Once upon a time, a young friend of the family declared he only ate the big blueberries and wouldn't eat the little blueberries because they tasted "too sideways" for him. When asked to elucidate his comment, he said, "It makes your smile go sideways and not up." -- rather perceptive of him, I though.)

I love being out in the rain, but an excessive amount can grow wearying. I trust you're enjoying more sunny days by now. I think children long for the outdoors more than even they realize. Too much screen time isn't good for anybody. :)

Tis so true... the longing we once felt for the rain to stop so we could venture in the puddles, search for critters in the wet grass and just get outside to play has sadly been replaced by electronic motivation...
Hope you are well and the sunshine has finally made her appearance.
